Michigan Stones
I love rockhounding. My passion began as a child vacationing in the upper peninsula of Michigan wading in the frigid water of Lake Superior searching for its famous striped agates. It continued when I moved to the desert southwest and began discovering all kinds of gemstones that I found interesting candidates for my jewelry. It furthered as I studied gemology and continues today as I search for diverse stones found in the state of Michigan where I live. My passion is to educate people of the vast rich resources of stones and potential gemstones we have in our state, by making jewelry which features these stones.
Why are these stones so special? My fascination is mostly because of their rarity and their unususal characteristics. Did you know that Lake Superiour agates are the oldest agates on the planet? And that Petoskey Stone is actually a coral that lived in one time oceans and was finally pushed down by glaciars to the Petoskey area? And did you know that Greenstone (Chlorastrolite) is our state gemstone and is found only on the shores of Lake Superior. What do you think our native Pudding Stone or our "hybrid" is composed of ?
I find that creating jewelry with these stones gives me a sense of joy and grounds me to my memories of rockhounding and love of Michigan and that the people who purchase my jewelry feel the same way.
